Quarry History
Back in 1840 the Osgood family discovered granite on their farm in Acworth, NH. They split the stone by hand and used horses to move the granite down the mountain. Due to hard economic times the quarry was abandoned.
In the 1980’s Tim Gowen farmed the land and sold surface stone for landscaping. In 2004 Tom Blais, a stone mason from Vermont, started quarrying the mountain.
In 2014 Tom sold the quarrying equipment to Chris Bishop who created Cold River Granite. Cold River Granite has exclusive mining rights to the Gowan family farm property and pays the family royalties on each sale.
The quarry produces high quality dimensional granite used for stone walls, patios, steps and veneer building stone. Much of the stone is still hand split. Every order is custom. Tell us what you need and we will do our best to get you the right stone.
